sloth - E9 passion



the term "sloth" was intended to translate the greek word a-chedia (acedia/without care), which in turn meant precisely the sloth of the psyche and spirit, rather than simply inactivity. it is a numbing of the spirit and a loss of the sense of being: of inner life, a refusal to see and resistance to change. not only did they fail to learn to love themselves as a result of a deficit of love, but they also forget their disappointment from the absence of love through a peculiar "pachydermism." beginning from a merely indifferent position, they move toward a conscious rejection of joy and toward morbid self-absorption and despair. what is perceived as E9 "tolerance" is actually a silent reconciliation with evil. the loss of inner depth and inherent conciliatoriness creates good-natured, down-to-earth E9s.



⤷ self-preservation nine - appetite

the thirst for love transforms not only into physical appetite, but also into another, less noticeable kind of insatiability - the desire to invade other people's space, excessive curiosity, the search for novelty through travel, or the need for distraction through things such as television or hobbies. instead of feeling a constant connection with their feelings, desires, and inner strength, they focus on merging with physical comfort and routine activities. self-preservation sloth manifests as neglect of one's own survival needs, which happens unconsciously, and which they try to compensate for with a need for food, comfort, entertainment, or sleep.



⤷ sexual nine - fusion

the passion of sloth and the sexual instinct create a type that completely gives itself to important people. this passion does not lead to a connection between two fully independent people, but rather to a blending or allowing oneself to be absorbed, in which the chosen person becomes a substitute for the subtype representatives' own "self." they may unconsciously adopt the thoughts, attitudes, and feelings of others because standing on their own ground may feel too difficult for them, and seek to live through another person. they are accustomed to understanding that their own pleasures do not matter and that no one will ultimately satisfy them. instead, the desires of those close to them are important, and they make these desires their own. the passion of sexual sloth is the altruistic renunciation of one's own needs in favor of the needs of others.



⤷ social nine - participation

they strive to serve the groups to which they belong. as a countertype, they go against "sloth" and work for the sake of the group, and because of a strong desire to be involved, there are usually many groups. it can be said that here there is a fusion with the needs of the group, as well as an implicit desire to be accepted as part of it - as compensation for the fact that the person did not feel sufficiently included in their own family. they believe that it is by working for the benefit of people that they will become worthy of being a part of them. they are very focused on maintaining harmony in their surroundings and will make great efforts while simultaneously not allowing others to see their pain.
